Bed Frame Fabrics Explained: Velvet, Boucle, Linen and More
Bed Frame Fabrics Explained: Velvet, Boucle, Linen and More
Written by the Valtiva Team
Fabric choice affects how a bed frame feels, looks, and holds up over years of use — here's a genuine guide to the main upholstery fabric types, and an honest note on which ones we actually offer.
Velvet
A cut-pile fabric with a soft, plush surface and a rich, light-catching sheen. Genuinely luxurious in feel and appearance, though it needs specific care — see our velvet care guide. This is a fabric we genuinely offer, in both plush and crushed finishes.
Boucle
Made from looped yarns that create a distinctive, nubby, textured surface — genuinely different from velvet's smooth pile. Boucle has become a defining texture of contemporary, Scandinavian-influenced interiors specifically.
Linen
A natural fibre known for breathability and a relaxed, slightly textured look. Genuinely cooler to the touch than velvet or chenille, making it a popular choice for warmer climates.
Chenille
A soft, textured fabric with a warmth and physical weight that's genuinely distinct from both boucle (more visual than tactile) and velvet (smoother, less textured). Chenille sits comfortably between the two.
Teddy
A looped, textured fabric similar in construction to boucle, known for a cosy, tactile surface. This is one of our own genuine fabric options — worth checking our pet-friendly fabric guide if claws are a household consideration.
An Honest Note on Our Own Range
We currently offer Plush Velvet, Crushed Velvet, Teddy, Naples, and Coniston as our fabric options. We've been upfront elsewhere that we don't have detailed material composition data confirming exactly which category Naples and Coniston fall into beyond their names — our honest recommendation is to request a free fabric swatch and judge the real material directly.
How to Actually Choose
Velvet for genuine luxury and light-catching richness. Teddy for cosy, textured warmth. Beyond that, a physical swatch tells you more than any description can.
Request Free Swatches
We offer free fabric swatches across every option we carry, genuinely the best way to judge real-world feel and colour before committing.
