It's easy to assume "period property" automatically means high ceilings throughout, but this isn't always true — in many Georgian townhouses specifically, upper-floor bedrooms were often built with noticeably lower ceilings than the grander ground-floor reception rooms below. If your bedroom is on an upper floor, it's genuinely worth measuring rather than assuming the building's era guarantees the height.

Measure the distance from floor to the underside of any cornicing or picture rail specifically, not just to the ceiling itself.
